Fall wedding season officially kicked off this past weekend with a grand ceremony at the Belmont Abbey Chapel and a rustic reception at the Barn at Sandcastle Farm. Kathleen and Alex’s wedding was one of the hottest weddings I’ve had all year (and I’m hoping the only one).
During bridesmaid Maddie’s speech, she said something that really hit me hard. The amount of speeches and toasts I have heard over the last few years and they all start to sound the same honestly. The number of bridesmaids and best friends who have grown up with the bride, they have so many stories to tell and memories made but not as many with the groom. They start to explain how the met the other person and how their best friend started to smile more, seemed happier, and how they learn about the other person during the time they spend with both the bride and groom.
It all sounds the same, but this weekend one of the bridesmaids who went to college with Kathleen and they were in a sorority together, said something that really stuck out. It was different but spoke to every toast ever made by anybody any the world. The typical best friend who first meets the boyfriend and sees how good he is for her best friend.
“It’s really something special when you can get to know someone through the eyes of somebody who loves them as much as Kathleen loves Alex” You don’t normally think about it from that perspective. How you can learn about someone so much without even meeting them just by being close to someone who loves them deeply. Through the eyes of someone who loves them. It’s pretty powerful and it makes me think of how as Christians, if we loved God as fiercely and deeply as he loved us then others might get to know God and see him through our eyes and hearts.
Kathleen and Alex, I hope you two are blessed for many many years and have the happiest of marriages. Take the time for each other and the time for yourselves. You deserve the world! It’s been a joy getting to know you both and spend this season of your lives with y’all.
Thank you to this amazing team who made their day so beautiful!
