I feel like I’ve been waiting for this engagement session to happen for four years. I am so thrilled to finally share their Falls Park on the Reedy engagement session! I met both Tori and Josh in college and while I was friends with Josh first, when I finally met Tori I knew she was perfect for him.
You know those people in your life that you don’t really recall the exact moment you met them but you know it was an instant connection? That’s how my friendship with Josh is and we’ve always joked that we were brother and sister. Partly because our unique last names are almost the exact same except the last two letters. I have a real brother who’s name is Josh and he has two family members who have names of Heather AND Yvonne (my middle name). Oh and our birthdays are only 1 day a part. It’s wild.
Capturing the best moments and seasons for my greatest friends is where I find my truest joy. So finally getting to share these moments with Tori and Josh just makes my heart happy.
How They Met
Well enough about me, let’s talk about their love! If you know Gardner-Webb or attended ANY small private school/university, then you know how it feels to think you know every single person. At Gardner-Webb University, it’s such a small campus you see almost everybody every day and you have classes with the same people mostly. That’s where Tori and Josh’s story starts.
Gardner-Webb is fixated in a small, dry, 1 stop light town. So the athletic events that happen on campus are truly the highlights of the week for the entire population of the town. The population IS the student body basically. Again, you see the same people all week. Sometimes though, it may feel like you know them because you’ve seen their face but haven’t actually spoken or formally introduced yourselves.
Tori and Josh first met at a home Gardner-Webb football game in the Fall 2011 when they were throwing out t-shirts. Josh got one and did not want it, he turned around and decided to just give it to Tori. Over the next three years they became friends. Tori was persistent on the fact that they were merely just friends. During their senior year in 2014 Josh finally made it out of the friend zone and they officially started dating!
How He Proposed
Earlier this year, Josh told me he was planning to propose to Tori. Super stoked I tried everything to be able to be there and capture that moment for them. Things didn’t work out but that’s not important. What’s important is the fact that Tori was completely surprised. Which is a huge success for any guy.
One of their favorite things to do together was visit breweries and go on tours. They made plans to go on a brew tour at NoDa with some friends. Nothing out of the ordinary. But little did she know, Josh had already been there and planned the whole thing with the team. During the tour they went into the room where they make the beer and the tour guide asked if anyone wanted to take a picture on the steps.
Tori said she jumped on that idea as quick as she could. Josh (like any ole guy) isn’t a fan of taking pictures but she wanted to take advantage of this opportunity so shot her hand up real quick! So happy Tori waltzed over to the stairs and started making her way up and about a few steps up Josh called out her name and told her to turn around. When she turned around Josh was down on one knee at the bottom.
In complete shock she responded before Josh could even say anything at all with “Shut up YES!”. He did eventually actually ask the question but it wasn’t all that necessary. Afterwards, Josh had planned for their close friends and some family waiting to celebrate with them.
August 2019 can’t come soon enough. I’ve loved celebrating with Tori and Josh and being a part of this incredible season. Here are a few of my favorites from their Falls Park on the Reedy engagement session.
